Why are the version numbers different?

WCPOS is made up of several pieces that work together: a WordPress plugin, the POS app itself, a desktop wrapper, and mobile apps. Each piece ships its own updates on its own schedule, so the version numbers won't always match.

For example, a bug that only affects the desktop app means a new desktop release but no change to the plugin. A fix to the checkout screen updates the POS app without touching anything else. That's why you might see the plugin on 1.8.5 while the POS app is on 1.8.8 — both are current, they've just had different numbers of updates since the last major release.

The part that matters: all components that share the same first two numbers (like 1.8) are compatible with each other. 1.8.3 works with 1.8.14 works with 1.8.7. The third number is just a count of patches for that particular component.

Short version: keep everything updated to the latest and you're good. The numbers don't need to match — they just need to be in the same family (e.g. all 1.8.x).

A note for Pro users

Pro plugin updates require an active license. If your yearly license has expired, you'll stay on the last version you received. In that case, avoid updating other components to a newer major family (e.g. from 1.8.x to 1.9.x) since the older Pro version may not be compatible. Renew your license or download the latest from your account page to get back in sync.
